Commentary on A Course in Miracles, Lesson 14

How is this not real?

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

God did not create a meaningless world. (ACIM, W-14)

This lesson is hard to accept. Not the central idea quoted above, but the lesson itself::

⁵God did not create that war, and so it is not real.

⁶God did not create that airplane crash, and so it is not real.

⁷God did not create that disaster [specify], and so it is not real.

What is and isn’t real? Did not my brother not die of cancer? Was my aunt not killed in a car accident?

Are experiences not real? Perhaps all experiences are only memories, which are flawed. But are all memories a product of the imagination?

What about obituaries? Do they record deaths and causes of death that did not happen?

If they are not real, is A Course in Miracles just a course in semantics about the definition of “real?”
