Shared illusions.

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my seeing. (ACIM, W-18)

This is a brief lesson and the exercise is simple. What comes to my mind is the idea of “consensus reality.” We all pretty much see the same things and give the same meaning to them when we process thoughts. You don’t see or call something an owl where I see a bicycle. If you did, it’d be hard to imagine how we could communicate at all.

But “consensus reality” isn’t necessarily “objective reality” or the truth. This consensus could be a projection of our minds. The material universe that we perceive as external to our bodies might be a shared illusion.
