Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

What I see is a form of vengeance. (ACIM, W-22)

Perhaps because of spiritual ideas I’ve already been exploring that emphasize gratitude, I’ve been trying to look upon the world around me with a form of appreciation. It’s true, however, that often what I look at, I might find unsatisfactory. Particularly among my own possessions. Sometimes I see something and wish it was better. Other times I see something and wish I had something else.

It’s when I go online, however, that I feel aware of this vengeance. I see somebody express an opinion, and I make assumptions that the person who expresses such an opinion also has a bunch of other opinions I find disagreeable. Then I make judgments about their character. I think I wouldn’t want them as a friend. Then it’s tempting to respond, to assert my superior opinions make them look like a fool.

Why? To exert my vengeance on them for nothing they ever did to me.
