Commentary on A Course in Miracles: Lesson 25
What is it for?
Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
I do not know what anything is for. (ACIM, W-25)
This is the key to the lesson:
²At the most superficial levels, you do recognize purpose. ³Yet purpose cannot be understood at these levels. ⁴For example, you do understand that a telephone is for the purpose of talking to someone who is not physically in your immediate vicinity. ⁵What you do not understand is what you want to reach him for. ⁶And it is this that makes your contact with him meaningful or not. (ACIM, W-25.4:2–6)
My thoughts are going back to what I wrote about Lesson 1. The copy of the book means nothing to you, and that autograph of the author doesn’t, in itself, mean anything to you, but the thoughtfulness of the author means something to you.
I saw my somewhat transparent plastic drink cup and looked beyond it to the iced tea inside. What is iced tea for? An easy answer is, “The caffeine, because I don’t enjoy hot beverages and cold tea is easier to prepare than coffee.”
But what is the purpose of caffeine? Is it something I need or think I need? What is it for?
