Commentary on A Course in Miracles, Lesson 28

Why not love what’s around you?

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

Above all else I want to see things differently. (ACIM, W-28)

One way I’m beginning to see things differently is by realizing that everything around me was made to improve my life.To make chores easier. To beautify the home. To entertain me. To nourish and energize me. To make life more enjoyable.

And that was the intention of the producers of the things I see: to make my life enjoyable. In some sense, they love me.

I think we often compare things that we see to things that they are not. We might see something and compare it to something else that is bigger, newer, and that has a reputation of being more reliable. We might see something, and feel dissatisfied.

We see something and imagine something else that we think we’d enjoy more, and take for granted the thing that is there. But wouldn’t you be worse off if you didn’t have the thing you do have?

Everything that was made, was made out of love. Otherwise it wouldn’t have been made.

So why not love it?
