Daily Miracles: Lesson 9
I don’t understand
Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
I see nothing as it is now. (ACIM, W-9)
This builds on the earliest lesson. The object which I see doesn’t mean anything because I do not see it as it is now.
I’m somewhat aware that, from a scientific point of view, our eyeballs aren’t really seeing. There’s a process in which our brains form the images. I’m not sure how this really squares with vision tests or the apparent need for prescription lenses for some to be able to read or drive safely. Do the lines of letters in the optometrist’s office not exist as I see them?
I appreciate this from the day’s lesson:
⁶You do not need to practice what you already understand. ⁷It would indeed be circular to aim at understanding, and assume that you have it already. (ACIM, W-9.1:6–7)
I admit that I don’t understand right now.
