Egypt is you
Genesis 41: Joseph meets Pharaoh
Welcome to the Daily Bible Chapter. My name is James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as we discover new insights and new perspectives from a very old book.
I’m reading Young’s Literal Translation (YLT) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV).
Verse 16 is key: “Joseph answered Pharaoh, ‘It is not I; God will give Pharaoh a favorable answer.’”
Joseph is saying he’s not relying on his own understanding or that he has more knowledge than Pharaoh’s scribes about the “science” of dream interpretation. He is, rather, a channel for the voice of God who resides in his own consciousness, a God of infinite intelligence.
When Egypt turned to Joseph, that’s means Egypt turned to God.
And Egypt represents you. Imagine things are going well with your health, your bank account, your relationships. But a dream or other signal tells you that the external world won’t always be there to “make you happy.” That’s when you go inward, to your mind or consciousness, where you can see clearly and plan ahead. Your infinite internal resources free you to set the agenda. You can plan to be abundant, so you won’t have to react in desperation when famine hits.
When Pharaoh empowered Joseph, he turned away from the wisdom of the world and embraced the inner wisdom that is God.
And Egypt was saved.
