I’m reading Young’s Literal Translation (YLT) and the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV).

I can’t help but think, “Is The LORD crazy?”

Up to a point, Exodus 4 can be seen as a metaphor for an inner self-talk. At first, Moses says, “I can’t do this,” or “What about…” and The Lord says “Yes you can” and “I’ll take care of it.”

It’s as if Moses is sorting out with his higher self what he can do, and the higher self saying, “It’s no problem, you can do this.”.

When we face a challenge but keep doubting ourselves, an impatient or angry thought comes through: “What are you afraid of? Do it!” Then, “It will be alright; I can get someone to help.” In this case, Moses’s brother Aaron, who is synchronistically searching for Moses anyway.

I can go so far as to think that the Lord saying “I will harden Pharaoh’s heart” is akin to saying, “Pharaoh is stubborn and negotiations could (or will) be difficult.” Moses is aware of the challenges ahead of him. When you know in advance what the difficulties will be, it’s easier to keep calm, to keep your composure, to…
