Light means so many things.

Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.

I will there be light. (ACIM, W-73)

In my other newsletter, Daily Bible Chapter, I wrote this about light:

When I hear the word “light,” I might think of one of several things:

  • A flash, spark, ignition, or explosion that immediately changes the state of things.
  • The means to see the physical world through the body’s eyes, such as the sun or light bulbs.
  • Warmth; the sun may light the way, or a campfire may help us see at night, but they also warm us.
  • Lightness, as opposed to heaviness, in terms of weight or mass.
  • A happy emotional state (light-hearted, lighter than air).
  • Enlightenment, or a “flash” of understanding

Another concept of “light” that I didn’t think about when writing the above, but mentioned in Lesson 58, is the joyful person who enters and “lights up” a room.
