Life isn’t too short
How can you waste eternity?
Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
Lesson 167
There is one life, and that I share with God. (ACIM, W-167)
I often encounter memes or statements that begin with “Life is too short for…”
I don’t use that language, and I don’t share those memes. Life isn’t too short, life is eternal. It can’t be wasted or spent.
To say that “life is short” is to make life on earth even more stressful than it already seems to be: “I should have had more fun in this life, but now time is running out!” “I should have given more.” “I should have gotten along with people better.” You could have fun, and be more generous and gracious now, which is all that matters.
It’s possible to “waste time” in the sense of delaying one’s own happiness. But those who chose God a year ago don’t have more love or more happiness than you would if you chose God right now, or a year from now. Love is eternal and infinite. Eternity and infinity exist in this moment.
