Lesson 40 of A Course in Miracles
Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
I am blessed as a Son of God. (ACIM, W-40)
I wonder to what extent the terminology bothers people. “Son” sounds gender-exclusive, and “God” is often associated with wrath and hell. I wonder if something like “I am blessed as a Child of Spirit,” or something along those lines, would be more welcoming.
Then again, the Course is telling us the meanings we’ve attached to things, including words like “Son” and “God,” aren’t really real. So, I’m hoping the words themselves aren’t a stumbling block.
As the son of human beings, I am a child of humanity. I am an addition to humanity, and I’m also an expansion of humanity. My creations are humanity’s creations. My triumphs are humanity’s triumphs. If I transcend any limitation, all of humanity transcends it.
So it is also as a child of God. Just as I am what humanity is, so I am what God is.
