The World Isn’t Real
Lesson 57 of A Course in Miracles
Welcome to Daily Miracles, a running commentary on the 365 lessons of A Course in Miracles, an influential spiritual text from the 1970s. I am James Leroy Wilson and I invite you to join me as I go through this material for the first time.
(31) I am not the victim of the world I see. (ACIM, W-57.1:1)
(32) I have invented the world I see. (ACIM, W-57.2:1)
(33) There is another way of looking at the world. (ACIM, W-57.3:1)
(34) I could see peace instead of this. (ACIM, W-57.4:1)
(35) My mind is part of God’s. ²I am very holy. (ACIM, W-57.5:1–2)
Whether it’s based on “conspiracy theories,” science fiction, or ancient philosophy, there’s a belief among many people that the world we see isn’t real.
The message they often convey, is that we are slaves in a vast, complex system run by a powerful psychopathic cabal. This system is run by secret societies, intergalactic inter-dimensional beings, and/or something else.
This Course also says that the world we see is not real, but the agreement ends there. The Course is saying to me, “You created this world.”
Everything fearful, everything unjust, everything ugly is something I chose to see. I’m not a slave to external beings, but only to my own illusions.
But I can see peace instead. I can be free.
